Sac Stéphanie au crochet fait main – les coulisses de sa création chez Les Créations de VmZ

Do you know what is hidden behind this bag?

Much more than yarn and a few hours of crochet… 🧶

When you discover a handmade bag, you see its shape, its colors, and its finish. But have you ever wondered what lies behind its price?

Today, I wanted to show you a less visible part of my work: everything it takes to bring a handcrafted creation to life and keep Les Créations de VmZ running.

A finished bag doesn't tell the whole story

Stéphanie is a perfect example. This model was born from a nearly finished piece that didn't satisfy me. I unraveled it, salvaged the yarn, and started over to get the bag I had envisioned.

This work, like the trials and adjustments, is all part of the creation process. Yet, in the photo of the finished bag, there is no hint of the steps that preceded it.

The yarn is only part of the cost

To craft Stéphanie, you need yarn, but also a VmZ tag, lobster clasps, and a kiss-lock clasp. Each element is factored into the cost of the creation.

Red yarn balls, glitter yarn, crochet hook, and metal accessories for crafting a VmZ handmade bag

Once the bag is finished, it still needs to be photographed, prepared for presentation in the shop, and packaged for shipping. These are steps you don't necessarily see when you discover the product.

The invisible costs of a small craft business

Behind my crochet hook and yarn balls, there is also a micro-enterprise with its management costs, overhead, and tax obligations.

The price of a creation must, in particular, take into account:

  • The raw materials and accessories used for crafting.
  • Social security contributions and taxes due to URSSAF.
  • Fees charged on payments.
  • Subscriptions and management fees necessary for the online shop to function.
  • Packaging and expenses related to order preparation.
  • The company’s tax obligations.

So, what does the price of a bag really represent?

It does not just correspond to the yarn used or what is visible in a photo. It must account for the crafting labor, materials, accessories, and all the expenses necessary to keep a craft business alive.

When I set the price for a VmZ creation, I must take this whole picture into consideration, without losing sight of the care and high standards I wish to bring to every model.

I am sharing this to give you a behind-the-scenes look at the reality of handmade items.

The next time you look at a handmade creation, you will know that it also tells a whole story that isn't visible at first glance.
